[Skim-app-users] Reloading file jumps to top of page on Sierra

This is a follow-up to an earlier post ["another new OSX Sierra
bug"] regarding jump-on-reload behavior on OSX Sierra. Skim version 1.4.22
(96) on OSX 10.12.1 continues to exhibit the bug.
run Skim in "Fit" mode. open a pdf file. expand the Skim window by
dragging the left bottom towards the south-east. then when Skim detects a
file change and reloads the file, the contents page mysteriously moves up
and needs to be dragged down again. Because it worked in 10.11, I presume
it is another 10.12 bug. hope this helps. /iaw

Yes, PDFView on Sierra has some scrolling issues like this. However we
had a workaround for that in 1.4.22. Is that what you’re using?

Apple indicated that they fixed the scrolling bug for 10.12.2. Let's hope
this is true this time.

I just upgraded to OSX 10.12.2, and can confirm that the jump-on-reload bug
is still a problem.

It’s unfortunately not the first time Apple lies about fixing a bug.

Hi all,

I ran into the same issue on El Capitan, so seems not to be connected to Sierra. I had a look at recent Skim versions and it turned out that this behaviour was introduced by Skim 1.4.22. In 1.4.21 the scrolling position is still retained as expected. I hope this may be of some help.

Best! Ivo.

That is weird. The changes were introduced specifically to fix this on
Sierra, and this was reported to have worked. And it does work for me on El
Capitan.

Hi Christian,

That's weird indeed. To be complete: I am using Skim 1.4.24 on El Capitan 10.11.6. I get the repositioning issue with PDF Display Single Page and Two Pages but not with Single Page Continuous and Two Pages Continuous.

Best! Ivo.

Are you saying 1.4.21 worked OK on Sierra, or is that only about El Capitan?

I see the problem now, i had tested this in continuous scrolling mode. Apparently Apple always gives us the top-left point of the page rather than the actual scroll point in non-continuous mode. I’ve reported this bug to Apple, and added a workaround of for the next release.
