A new version of Skim is available for download at <http://skim-app.sourceforge.net/ <http://skim-app.sourceforge.net/>> or using the built-in updater.

Thanks to those of you who submitted reproducible bug reports and comments along with the exception reports; as always, please continue to submit bug reports at <http://sourceforge.net/p/skim-app/_list/tickets <http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=192583>>.

For those interested in what is fixed, release notes follow.

Changes since 1.4.18:

New Features
* Some extensions to template format.
* Support for Marquee Zoom feature, select while holding Command and Option.
* Hidden preference to read notes from a .skim sidecar file when notes were found in attributes.

Bugs Fixed
* Reduce waste in export of notes as RTFD.
* Avoid a crash when drawing collapsed line notes.
* Make sure notes are saved when auto-saving on newer systems.
* Pass selection to "with data" argument of "make" command to create new markup notes in AppleScript.
* Remove drawing overrides for freehand and one notes as Apple should have fixed this bug.
* Fix some small leaks.

I think that Skim’s new hidden preference
“SKReadNonMissingNotesFromSkimFileOption” was added to address the desires
of users like me who want to use .skim files as fully-functional sidecar
files. Thank you for adding this, it serves my needs perfectly.

It seems that Apple didn't fix the bug that caused problems with freehand
notes ... :(
I have the latest OS X version and it's not working again.

I was not sure if it was just me, but I agree. Free notes don't show up,
lines don't show up (transparent even with colors selected). There's also
an awful loading pause every 10-15 seconds (I think it tries to save even
though I turned off autosave).

I have the latest osx as well. On the last version of skim, the loading
pause was not there. The freehand did occasionally crash or go invisible
though.

Yes, sorry, it does seem Apple lied to me about fixing the freehand note drawing. I don’t think what I find worse: including such a bug in an OS release, or lying about fixing it. I have asked them to reopen my bug report and really fix it, but they haven’t replied yet. Unfortunately, the PDFKit team has a very bad history.

As for loading, we didn’t really change anything (unless you set a hidden pref, but it doe not seem you did). And Skim does not auto save in any way (unless you set a hidden pref).
