Subject: [Skim-app-users] How include notes in saved or exported file
for viewing by other applications?
This is a naive question. I have used Skim mostly for reading, not for markup, and when I did do markup, I later read the file in Skim. Today I was trying to take a screenshot (PNG), mark it up with notes, and save it to PDF for viewing by other applications such as Preview and sending in an email message. I tried Save As and Export, saving to PDF each time, but Preview did not see the markup either way. How does one incorporate markup of various kinds into a saved/exported file for other applications to view?
I might have misphrased my question. By "notes" I meant text boxes I got by selecting the Text tool and clicking on my image. Is there something else in Skim that "notes" more accurately describes? From what i saw on the Wiki it seems that shapes in general don't get preserved when the file is saved, either as the PNG it started out as or PDF. Is that true? So the question is really how to export a PNG or PDF marked up with shape and text objects in a form that includes the shapes in the resulting PNG or PDF document for email message and for other documents to read.

Did you ensure that you selected the “With embedded notes” radio button when doing Export? I just drew some shapes on a PDF, exported with embedded notes, and Preview saw them just fine.
